What is a Home Care Package?

As you get older, you may require increased daily support.

Government-funded Home Care Packages help you stay independent in your own home for longer.

Many people ask what these funds can be used for. While the government sets criteria for inclusions and exclusions, they cover a wide range of services and products to support comfort and safety at home.

You can access home care services such as:

  • VMCH provides practical support at home including cleaning, laundry, tidying, light gardening, minor repairs, window and gutter cleaning, and assistance with personal alarms, mobility aids, and home modifications.
  • VMCH offers gentle, respectful personal care at home including help with dressing, bathing, mobility, and medication. You can also access in-home respite, meal preparation, nutrition support, and assistive technologies. 
  • VMCH helps you enjoy nutritious, home-cooked meals with support for meal preparation, grocery shopping, and unpacking. You can also access meal delivery and personalised dietary advice. 
  • VMCH’s health and therapy services help older Australians stay active, safe, and independent. Support includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, podiatry, and exercise physiology. 
  • VMCH helps you stay socially connected with support for visiting loved ones, attending church, joining group activities, and enjoying day trips. Flexible respite options offer time out for you and your carer, while transport services ensure safe, door-to-door travel to appointments and outings.
  • VMCH’s centre-based programs offer older Australians a welcoming space to connect, recharge, and enjoy meaningful activities. Join social groups, gentle exercise, cultural events, and day respite at our Wantirna centres, including the Multicultural Wellness Centre and White Road Community Centre.
