Which care is right for you?

Starting the aged care journey can feel overwhelming.
Many people aren’t familiar with the differences between permanent residential care and respite care until they begin exploring options. This page is designed to help you understand the two main types of residential aged care and guide you toward the right VMCH service for your needs.

At-Home Aged Care

At-home aged care is designed for older people who want to stay independent and safe in their own home while receiving support with daily tasks and health needs.

Unlike residential aged care, where individuals live in a care home full-time, home care services allow people to remain in familiar surroundings with flexible assistance tailored to their lifestyle.

VMCH offers a wide range of in-home services, from help with cleaning and personal care to nursing, transport, and social support. These services can be funded in different ways depending on the level of care required:
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
Ideal for those needing entry-level support, such as help with meals, shopping, or home maintenance.

Home Care Packages (HCP)
These packages provide support for people with more complex or high-level care needs and may include case management, allied health, and clinical care.
